Back from holiday!~~
Day 1
At Changi Airport
I'm pretty excited for my sydney trip, coz its going to be my very first trip after soooo sooo many years (can't remember when was the last time I did have a holiday. when I'm young with my parent? Does going Malaysia consider a holiday??) Anyway, it was rather fun having to go to the airport alone, sat on the plane for 6 n 1/2 hours to get to sydney. This is my first time, on a long journy flight (feel so "mountain turtle"). I din't know that now every seats has its very own entertainment system, I was quite amaze by it (If i remember correctly, last time only business class and first class gets to have the entertainment system).
On the plane, I met a traveller. He is going for sydney for week work and will be flying to canada to work there permenantly. He told me he has migrated there. So envy!~ How I wish I also have a chance to migrate to a country and work. Singapore is getting too satutated. We have a nice chat when the plane was about to touch down to Sydney.
Touch down at sydney
After 6 and 1/2 hour of torturing flight, I finally reach sydney. It was rather a very small airport. Now, I know why Changi airport is labelled as the world class airport, the airport at sydney is not very "impressive" and the facilities well is just acceptable. When I step out of the airport, its like someone has turned the aircon on. Its chilling!~~ but I like it! My friend at sydney fetch me to he's apartment to rest for the day. What a nice place, he has. A two storey unit - 2 bedroom upstairs and a master bedroom downstairs with the kitchen, living room and dinning room. He cook dinner and since sydney or can I say australia is a boring place at night we turn in early for the day....
Day 2
I was greeted by the blazing sun at the window.... the blind was not drawn properly before I sleep and it is just only 8am!~~! I felt I will just sleep for another half hour, but instead I woke up at 10am!~~! I jump out of the bed and knock at my friend room and only to hear him say I will be up at 11am... I was indeed very angry... coz is my first day I'm all excited to see the new place... and he is still sleeping!~!~~ *pissed* Called my bf to grumble about he's lazy bro still sleeping at this hour of the day... and went downstairs to make myself breakfast... what to do, you are already on the pirated ship, you can only move when the captain is up....
Habour Bridge & sydney opera house
The first place I visited was the habour bridge and the sydney opera house. I shop at the weekend market place beside the habour bridge. And, have a bottle of beer at the oldest pub in sydney (first time so early of the day to have beer). Nice and slow place. Took a walk along the habour to sydney opera house. Along the way there are alot of street performer, and i brought a fusion music (dance + australia aborigine "blowpipe") from one of the performer. Saw the sydney opera house (a typical tourist spot), nothing special actually is just like our durian in Singapore. I guess its winter, the sunset very early... the day started short and it ended very early also.... but its rather fruitful for a day.
Went to Karaoke before heading off for dinner at my friend's gf's work place to have vietnam food. The place is called green box (so typical name, K-box, J-box) and its very cheap. Its only 10$ for 2hrs and drinks included. I thought it will be a very outdated place (coz its a angmo place, all the songs must be mostly english), but to my surprise their songs there are very up-to-date, some of the songs we dont even have it in Singapore's k-box.
Day 3- Darling Habour
Went strolling at Darling habour by myself. It was rather refreshing walking along the habour. Attended a "blowpipe" demonstration @ the culture centre there. The musician play a a whole range of outback sound from the instrunment, e.g toad, fly, kangaroo... its amazing how a long, hollow pipe can do. Then I went shopping at Darling habour but I hate shopping at Aus coz the shops there closes at 4.30pm every day except thursday which closes at 7pm. So for those who love shopping I think you have to start very early in order to shop finish the whole mall. Or if not like me, simply fly through the stores like a flash. ke keI was been rush to find a sweater for myself. I really under estimate the weather, the sweater that I brought there was barely thick enough to keep me warm. After that, on the way to meet up with my friend at chinatown I have a scoop of the famous black sesaeme ice cream from "Passion flower ice cream store". Yummie~!~~ its kind of shiok to have something cold in such a cold weather.
Day 4- Day Tour to Port Steven
Our first stop of the day tour is to visit the reptile park, nothing interesting compare to singapore zoo.
Next, we went to see the dophines!~~~ Yeah!~!~ finally can see wild dophines swimming in the open sea. It was rather windy and cold out at the sea but was enjoyable (Lucky I brought a new jacket yesterday). As I was looking around for any sighting of dophine, I heard a chuckle (sound of a dolphine) thought the dolphines are swimming near the boat but it turn out was edwin making those noise..... pengz.... if I come earlier a few months, I could have see whales also....
Next is sand riding... it makes you wonder how can those sand pile up till so tall and where in hell these sand came from? and the sands are very fine like milk powder, unlike singapore. Now I know what is the meaning of "chi sa", the sand is so fine that a slight gust of wind will send u breathing in and eating the sand. We then sat on a 4WD to the of the sand hill.... each of us was given a sand board (look like a skate board just that there is no wheels) and we glide down the hill of sand.... it was easy to go down but going up nearly kill me!~!~~! It was a struggle to dig and pull and crawl back up to the top.... for those older people they only did once... we try to struggle to do 4 times... you can imagine how tiring it is..... Beside the sand hills is a long stretch of beach... the car drop ups at the beach to enjoy the scenery and play with the "pipi" (no idea is it spell like that)
Good time always end very fast.... we drop at a nearby winery for some people to buy wine and head home...
Day 5- Manly Beach and shopping in the city
Edwin drove me to manly beach to visit their another infamous beaches... nice scenery I can say (only photo can illustrate how beautiful it is)... shop around the surf shops and took a ferry to enjoy the ocean scenery back to sydney. Took a stroll to sydney opera hse again and habour bridge. Visit the puppet toy shop, it was deep underground, kind of scary with all the puppets hanging from the ceiling and its quiet.... After that I walk down to the city and its shopping!~~~! Shop from one shop to another and not forgeting I only have a few hours left before it closes at 4.40pm....
Day 6- Day tour blue mountain
I take part in another day tour but this time round I'm on my own coz Edwin has to go back to he's lab to do his work, plus he has visited blue mountain before already. The day started off with rain... and cloudy... when I get on the bus I got my first disappointment- the road to the limestone cave was close due to snow, so we wont be able to get to visit the place (Edwin told me it is beautiful insight and I was looking forward to see also).... instead they brought us to the sydney olympic stadium. Nothing interesting accept that it is a very big place, took some photo of the telstra stadium and the place thats all. When I get back on the coach, there were 3 hongkie (2 aunty and a girl), and they asked me to join them since I'm alone. She is studying in sydney and she is bringing her mum and aunty to walk around. Very sweet of them, I guess wherever there is chinese sure can survive one!~! ke ke.
The next stop is to a zoo, this zoo has the most "collection" of kangaroos and koalas!~!~ compared to the reptile park that I went with Edwin on the Port steven day tour the other day. The day wasnt that great keep drizzling and I was annoyed by it. But again, the group of hongkie offer me a bolly and ask me to join them... but after walking awhile with them, which really slow me down... I walk myself coz I prefer less restriction when I'm going for tour.
Finally, after that came the event of the day- visiting the three sisters at the blue moutain. It was cloudy and raining the tour guide was afraid that we might not be able to see the 3 sisters. But I guess we are blessed.. when we get there the rain starts to stop and the cloud starts to move away. The three sisters have a legend behind it:
The Legend...
The Aboriginal dream-time legend has it that three sisters, 'Meehni', 'Wimlah' and Gunnedoo' lived in the Jamison Valley as members of the Katoomba tribe. These beautiful young ladies had fallen in love with three brothers from the Nepean tribe, yet tribal law forbade them to marry. The brothers were not happy to accept this law and so decided to use force to capture the three sisters causing a major tribal battle. As the lives of the three sisters were seriously in danger, a witchdoctor from the Katoomba tribe took it upon himself to turn the three sisters into stone to protect them from any harm. While he had intended to reverse the spell when the battle was over, the witchdoctor himself was killed. As only he could reverse the spell to return the ladies to their former beauty, the sisters remain in their magnificent rock formation as a reminder of this battle for generations to come.
After taking some pictures of the 3 sisters we head to blue mountain to take their cable cars.
The Blue Mountains is densely populated by oil bearing Eucalyptus trees. The atmosphere is filled with finely dispersed droplets of oil, which, in combination with dust particles and water vapour, scatter short-wave length rays of light which are predominantly blue in colour.
The sights was beautiful and I even see rainbow. I wanted so much to walk to the forest trail but as you know u r with a tour group everything is go go go from one location to another. I guess next time if I ever go again, I do love to talk a walk and see the nature.
Day 7- Shopping spree @ bondi beach
Today is a girl's day out!~!~ Went shopping spree with angie. In the morning Edwin drove the two of us to the train station to catch a train to bondi beach. When I go to a new place I always like to try their public transport and today she brought me to take the train aka our MRT. The train is 2 level and what interest me was the backrest of the seat can flip over depend on which side u want to sit. Cool!!~~! and angie say no one stands on the train coz there is always more then enuff seats. However, it is very dangerous at nite coz the train is so huge sometime you will bum into drunken, molester, etc... so scary!~~ Finally, we reach bombay beach... shopping centre lah!~!~ We were suppose to shop awhile and visit the beach but it started to rain very heavily so we continue to shop. Plus the mall is very huge, huge is huge but you can't get what you wanted!~! I wanted to get a birthday gift- a mic stand for Edwin coz he's birthday is round the corner. I went to alot of store but could not find.... finally I asked a guy (he came from NZ) in Harvey Norman and he directed me to the music store across the mall.
Did i mention that in Aus. "Burger King" is called "Hungry Jack"? Ya, is rather confusing at first, but my bf told me that becoz in aus. another food chain also registed as burger king so burger king cannot use their name in aus, instead change to "hungry jack"
While we were waiting for Edwin to fetch us, I chat with Angie.. I asked her is she very uncomfortable of my present and she said yes she is. From the start I already sense it coz the 2nd day he make Edwin super pissed that he almost killed us in the car!~! That stupid Edwin lah who tell him to tell her that im he's ex!~!~ *bang wall* Then I chat with her to rest assure that we are just old friends. :O)
Day 8- Huntervally wine tasting!~!~
Set off early in the morning with Edwin, Angie, Nicole to Huntervalley. It was raining heavily... so we decided to take the car to the central station and take the train to town to fetch our rented car. The rain is like playing tricks on us, it started small and suddenly it rained very heavily~!!~ I wonder why people don't bring brolly out in aus? My friend told me coz the wind is too strong and will blow the brolly up like a mushroom. ke ke. When we reach the car rental office, the rain stop!~!~! It came and stop like a water tap. After been soak in the rain, we finally make our way to huntervalley. There are alot fo wineyard there, suppose to be the best place to plant grapes, but the time of the year when u can see havesting is late Jan. Now all the grape vines are dried up and waiting for the next season. Bought a red wine at peacock hill and a port for my uncle. First time I like the taste of port.. coz port like dessert wine is always very sweet and I hate sweet stuff. Whenever I drink dessert wine, I seem to get choke by the sugar. So i thought it will be the same for the port. But to my surprise, it is moderate and it brings a nutty fragrance to the nostile. Nice!~!!~ And, we went to taste some nice white wine, forget the name of the winery but the logo is a pig sign. Nice white and the first time I have a liking for white. After all the wine tasting, we visited the huntervalley cheese place!~!~ CHeese!~!! yummie!~!~ too bad I can't bring back... Then we went to shopping area, brought chocolate for my bro's gf no idea is it gd coz never tasted it. I find that over at aus there is alot of range of wine glasses. Nice, have a impluse of buying them down but what to do with them?
Day 9- Fish Market & pothole
After much nagging at Edwin, he finally brings me to the fish market which alex keeps mentioning. At first, i thought will be some smelly fish market you will see in singapore- that's how Edwin make it sound like- fishes brings back from the sea and lie on the floor and people shouting everywhere to buy fishes. But it turn out to be a dried market with well organise store selling seafood. Where is the fishes lying on the floor??? Is more like a seafood mall! We brought some rather fresh salmon sashimi, oyster with cheese and fish n chips. The oyster was not very fantastic, coz it was abit not fresh. The worst is the fish n chips, they were tastless and soggy. Thought i will have food posioning coz throughout the car journy i'm not feeling that well....lucky is just indigestion. ke ke Guess what also, i bump into the 3 hongkie i met at the day trip to blue mountain. I din't notice them, it was the girl call out to me. So nice of them to remember me, should have asked for her contact so that can stay in contact.
After the fish market, we head down to pothole. On the way, it started to rain very badly. Edwin wanted to bring me see the entire coastline up the mountain but the visibility was so bad coz of the rain... again i have to miss it! Finally, Lord was nice to use, when we reach the potehole, the rain drop to a drizzle. The pothole was made by the long years of waves hitting the rocks and it make a hole out of it. Standing in front of it, makes you so small and the nature so great. Nice scenery!~! I even saw people going down to the water to surf. Are they NUTS??!!! So cold, i think i will freeze to death sia! After that we make our way back.. pass by some nice pasture with cows grazing at the grass... so peaceful, I love it.
Day 10- Last day
Last day... good things always have to end so fast? Have to say goodbye to sydney, geez I'm just starting to enjoy it and lovin it. I want more!~!~ ke ke Been a wonderful and eventful holiday for me.
I came to sydney for a few reasons:
1) I went to find myself. Lost myself since my last r/s, now is the reason to understand myself more. Then people will ask, why need to find yourself? You re not you meh? Yes, but many years of running around, buzy with your study, work, etc. How many times you actually have time for yourself? To be with yourself? I think many of us, never thought of having a time of yourself to be with yourself, to know yourself. After this trip, i reconnect back to myself.
2) I went to prove to myself many things that in the past I thought I will be afraid. Now, I understand it wasn't that scary that I thought it would be. I don't deny that for 25 years of my life, I lived in a protect world constructed by my mum. Many of time, there will always my mum to fall back on, till a point when I was thinking to do my study overseas, I was afraid. I was afraid coz they say will be dangerous for a person to be alone overseas. I was afraid that I can't survive when I go overseas myself. I was afraid of many other stuff. Afther this little adventure of mine, I know i'm not afraid instead I'm still a little daredevil.
3) I stop myself to apperciate the things and people around me. When you have all the time to yourself, you will have the time to think of all the people and things around you and you will start to apperciate them. Time won't stop but people will slowly fade away from time. Treasure everything and don't live a regret. What you really want for life? Go for it for there is only one chance, one life to do what you want to do. Are you to work and work and at the end of the road you then realise that's not what you are looking for? I don't think I want that to happen. For I live for each day like it's going to be my last day living.....
